Manor Farm - Windmill

  • Peg 13
  • 62lb
  • 6th out of ten.................
  • Got battered either side

With the wind unexpectedly strong and like an idiot I felt ALL my rods at home and thought that I was going to fish long all day! Err that didn't happen and with the island been a whopping 18 meters away!! I struggled to hold the pole and broke a section in all my efforts. It was so frustrating as I know there were a lot of fish present but couldn't hold my pole still!

Peg 11

After the last couple of weeks I have had a few disappointing matches on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Marlborough and therefore was well excited about fishing Manor as you can almost be 100% guaranteed for bites.  Windmill has a large had of other fish as well as very carp you can think of.  Chub, big roach, bream and even monster perch.

Couple of my old team mates have come today, Arthur Hicks and Nigel Crewe which are new to the venue, so gave them some advice and advised them where a liked to drew.  Pegs 5, 7, 13, 15, 22, 24 and 29.  They are all island pegs, apart from 29 which is a point and seems to be consistent and has a big tree to the right, which holds some big resident fish.

Well, peg 13, which is without doubt a good area, to be fair there wasn’t a bad peg as there was only 10 of us, so we all had plenty of room.  Arthur Hicks drew next to be me on peg 11 and Nigel Crewe was on peg 7.   My biggest concern was this width of the peg, as it was easily 18 meters wide and the wind was so strong and like an idiot I felt ALL my rods at home and thought that I was going to fish polw all day!  This was without doubt the biggest mistake that I made.
I struggled to hold the pole and broke a section in all my efforts. It was frustrating as I know there were a lot of fish present but couldn't hold my pole still!  I also tried to catch shallow at 13 meters in open water which rewarded me several chub, but I knew this wasn’t enough to win.  To cut a long story short, I didn’t win five matches in a row, so my “run of good fortune” came to an end through me been complacent and got battered either side, 82lb one side on peg 13 (end peg) and Arthur 77lb.  I will NEVER leave my rods at home again.

Been hungry for more, I went again, now the wind and rain was really bad and therefore hoped that not too many anglers would be there as you wanted the wind off your back, so peg 14-18 was about the best and I drew 10, which was ok but had a cross wind a little and we all shared the island 8-10-12, so good job we were all nice blokes and no arguing.  I decided to fish pole at 10 meters and 5 meters and method at 25 meters, so kept it to myself.  With no surprise it fished hard as we had over inch of cold rain in the match and therefore water temperature had plummeted.    However 90lb won it and 72lb 2nd, I was lucky to win the section by default, so cheers Aidan and unlucky Jason as I beat him by 1lb, that normally happens to me.
